Canadian Breweries History: O'keefe Brewing Company Ltd.
O'Keefe Brewing Company (originally the Victoria Brewing Co. on
Victoria Street in downtown Toronto, Canada) was the largest brewer in
Canada during the Victorian period and for many years afterward.
The Orriginal Victoria Street brewery was sold in the late 1960s to an
expanding college and closed.
Mr E. P Taylor (Carling O'keefe) head of Carling / O'keefe Breweries,
durning and after prohibition bought out a large amount of the small
breweries in Canada. At one point 98% of all Canandian brew was produced
by three companies: Molson's, Labatt's & Carling / O'keefe. Competition
was virtually eliminated when Molson's purchased Carling / O'keefe.
